It is now official that France’s Naval Group has been selected by the Swedish Ministry of Defence to supply four new Defence and Intervention Frigates (FDI) for the Royal Swedish Navy as part of the YSF Luleå programme.

The announcement marks a major milestone in strengthening defence cooperation between Sweden and France, following a highly competitive procurement process. The selection now opens a period of exclusive discussions between the parties.

The vessels will be equipped with several subsystems from Swedish suppliers. From Saab, these include the Torpedo 47, the RBS 15 anti-ship missile system, the G1X radar, and the Trackfire close-in defense system. From BAE Systems Bofors, they include 57 mm and 40 mm guns.

The programme is expected to significantly strengthen Sweden’s naval capabilities and support the country’s growing role in NATO and allied maritime operations. Naval Group also highlighted the rapid delivery timeline made possible through an already established production line and proven platform design. The four frigates will play a key role in reinforcing Sweden’s maritime security and protecting critical national interests in the years ahead.

French construction groups Bouygues Travaux Publics and Colas Rail, together with Swedish partner Infrakraft, have been selected to deliver a major section of Sweden’s East Link high-speed rail project.

The feronord consortium will construct approximately 36 kilometers of double-track railway between Gerstaberg and Skavsta in southern Sweden, including 28 bridges and 3 viaducts. The contract value is estimated at around €1.2 billion.

The East Link project forms part of Sweden’s long-term railway expansion program and will connect Järna and Linköping through a new 160-kilometer rail corridor scheduled to enter commercial service by 2035. According to the Swedish Transport Administration, the procurement attracted unprecedented interest from leading European contractors, reflecting growing international confidence in the Swedish infrastructure market.
